Dordt Softball Goes 2-0 On Thursday

Kissimmee, Florida — Chandler Schemper picked up three hits as the Defenders took down 8th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday morning.

Dordt got on the board first as Jessica Oules drew a leadoff hit by pitch and was later sent home from third on an RBI single from Schemper. The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd, capitalizing on an error with two runners in scoring position to make the score 1-1.

Indiana Wesleyan took the lead in the 5th, opening the inning with a double by Kamryn Buck, later scoring the baserunner from second on a stolen base and throwing error.

The Defenders used the 6th inning to regain the lead as Emma Groen led off with a single, followed by two walks and a hit by pitch to knot the score at 2-2. Later in the inning with two away, Schemper singled with the bases loaded to put Dordt ahead 4-2.

Indiana Wesleyan added a home run in the bottom half of the 6th, but Dordt held the Wildcats in check in the 7th to move to 7-7-1 on the season.

The Dordt Defender softball team made it three wins in a row with a 5-3 win over Spring Arbor on Thursday afternoon. The Defenders came from 3-0 down to secure the win with five runs in their final two frames.

Spring Arbor scored two runs on two hits in the second inning and added another run in the fifth on three hits but left two runners on base.

The Defenders mounted their rally with four runs on four hits in the home half of the fifth with Kenzie Cunard doubling in a run and Chandler Schemper was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Emma Groen ended the scoring in the inning with a double that got two runners in. The Defenders added an insurance run with Cunard singling in Emma Brown for a 5-3 lead.

Spring Arbor got the tying run to the plate but the threat ended with a fielder’s choice and a strikeout for the final two outs of the game.

Kenzie Cunard and Jessica Oules each had three hits with Cunard knocking in two runs.

Emme Groen knocked in two with a single and Cunard had Dordt’s only extra base hit with a double.

Hailey Wilkin earned the pitching win with a five inning performance with eight hits scattered.

Abby Kraemer got the save after pitching two innings and she struck out two.
