Fremont, Nebraska — The Dordt Softball team split a conference doubleheader with Midland Saturday afternoon.
Dordt held off a Midland rally and won a 5-4 decision in game one of their softball doubleheader on Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska.
Dordt got a run in the first and two more in the fourth to lead 3-0. The Warriors got one across in the fourth inning but Dordt answered with two in the fifth and led 5-2 after Midland scored on in the bottom of the sixth.
Dordt went scoreless in the top of the seventh and Midland made a game of it with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the frame but Abby Kraemer worked through the next two batters without incident and won 5-4.
Kraemer got the pitching win with three earned runs allowed on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks issued.
Kenzie Cunard and Rachel Evavold each had homeruns with Cunard blasting a solo shot and Evavold a two-run homerun.
Five other Defenders had one hit each and Hailey Heeringa reached twice on a walk.
Midland was all over the Dordt Defenders in game two of their doubleheader and scored a 13-0 win in five innings.
The Warriors scored five in the first and five in the second and three in the third to account for their 13 runs.
Dordt had two hits in the loss.
Jessica Oules and Rachel Evavold each had a single.
Evavold took the loss on the mound and struck out one in the start. Taylor Knaack and Kayla Zevenbergen each appeared in relief.
Midland had a 13-2 hits advantage.
Dordt is 3-1 in league play and will face Mount Marty on Tuesday night.
