Dordt Softball Splits With Presentation To Open Season

Aberdeen, South Dakota — The Dordt Softball team split their first two games of the season against Presentation.

The Dordt Defender softball team was an 8-2 winner in its season opener on Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Defenders took advantage of a 11-5 hits advantage and four unearned runs to secure the victory over the Presentation Saints.

The Defenders scored two in the second inning with Karli Olsen knocking in a run with a ground out and Jessica Oules added a double that scored Ivy Terpstra. Olsen scored in the fourth inning on a Riley Titus single and Emma Groen had a homerun in the fifth inning for a 4-0 advantage.

The lead grew to 7-0 with three runs in the sixth inning with Olsen scoring on an error and Chandler Schemper added a double that plated Titus and Schemper later scored on a Aurora Tyson single. Presentation did get two in the bottom of the sixth but Dordt scored the final run of the game with a double steal in the seventh inning with Olsen swiping home for her third scored run of the game.

Abby Kramer earned the win with two runs allowed on five hits with eight strikeouts and she didn’t walk a batter.

Olsen had three hits with three runs and a run batted in.

Jessica Oules and Chandler Schemper had a single and double each and Schemper had a walk.

Dordt had an 11-5 hits advantage and didn’t commit an error while the hosts had four.

Presentation scored a come from behind win to salvage a split with the Dordt Defenders on Thursday night in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Dordt got on the board in the second inning as Kenzi Cunard knocked in two with a two-out single. Presentation scored two in the third inning with Dordt getting a double play to escape further damage. The Saints unlocked the tie in the fifth inning on a single and runners at first and third.

Dordt did get the tying run on base in the seventh with two outs but Jessica Oules, running for Aurora Tyson, was unable to get past first base.

THE NUMBERS
Dordt was outhit 6-4 with Presentation committing three errors.

Taylor Knaack took the loss and worked five innings and gave up six hits with six walks issued. Two of the runs were earned.

Four different players had singles for the Defeners with Cunard, Titus, Brooklyn Van Oort and Ivy Terpstra getting base hits.

Dordt takes a 1-1 record into its games on Friday in Aberdeen against Valley City State at 10:00 AM and Northern State at 2:00 PM.
