Dordt Volleyball Opens Home Season Tonight

Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt is hosting Briar Cliff in GPAC play Wednesday night, September 1 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The JV contest will get underway at 6:00 and the varsity match will start at the De Witt Gym at about 7:30.

The Chargers are 2-2 this season and will be playing in their GPAC opener. The Chargers have wins over Mayville State and Clarke and losses this season to Waldorf and Northwestern. All four matches were played last weekend at a classic Briar Cliff hosted.

The Chargers are averaging 11.88 kills per set with a .212 kill efficiency and the Chargers average 1.94 blocks per set. Opponents have a 12.24 kills per set average against the Chargers with a .175 kill efficiency and opponents have a 27-21 season service aces edge this year.

Dordt has started the season with a 5-0 record with a GPAC win over Morningside and four match wins over Eastern Oregon, Carrol, Montana Western and the College of Idaho.

The Defenders are averaging 13.72 kills per set with a .195 kill efficiency and Dordt is getting 2.0 blocks per set. Teams have a .119 kill efficiency against Dordt with 11.5 kills and 1.67 blocks.

Corrina Timmermans leads the team with a 4.33 kills per set average while Brenna Krommendyk and Jessi Franken average 2.94 and 2.83 kills per outing with Krommendyk accounting for a .306 kill efficiency and she averages 1.06 blocks per outing. Erica Bousema is averaging 6.28 digs per set and Megan Raszler puts up 6.5 assists and Campbell Marshall 4.94. Raszler also leads the team in digs with five.

Dordt’s Erica Bousema was named the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week for her play last week. She had three straight matches with over 20 digs and she tallied 29 digs in Dordt’s GPAC opening 3-0 win over Morningside. She followed that with 36 digs against Eastern Oregon at a classic hosted by the College of Idaho. Bousema is averaging over six digs per set through five matches.

Dordt will be off until Tuesday, September 7 when the Defenders host Grand View. Dordt’s next conferment outing is September 15 on the road against Jamestown.
