Dordt Volleyball Opens Season With Sweep Over Morningside

Sioux City, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders traveled to Sioux City, Iowa for both their season and GPAC opener on Wednesday night, August 25 and earned a sweep win over the Morningside Mustangs.

Dordt used sharp passing and an offensive attack that was near .300 in the first set to overcome a 13-11 deficit to win 25-17. The Defenders used a four point run started by a Grace Langemeier kill to take control of the set and pair of Corrina Timmermans kills late sealed the win.

Set two was all Dordt as they built a 23-14 lead before settling for a 25-16 win with the final two points coming on a pair of Morningside attack errors.

The Mustangs grabbed an early 3-0 lead in set three but Dordt rallied to eventually tie it at 4-4 on a Langemeier block and Brenna Krommendyk, who was held to three kills in the first two sets, erupted for three straight kills to unlock a 13-13 tie and the junior middle blocker ended with seven kills in the set as Dordt held on to win 25-22.

Dordt will face Eastern Oregon and Carroll (Montana) on Friday in Caldwell, Idaho and Montana Western and College of Idaho on Saturday at the event hosted by the College of Idaho.

Dordt hit for a .223 kill efficiency and had five points on blocks.

Morningside hit .017 with 26 kills and 24 attack errors and had four points on blocks.

Dordt had a 3-1 service ace advantage.

Jessi Franken had 12 kills on 24 attacks and Corrina Timmermans and Brenna Krommendyk had 10 kills each with Krommendyk doing her damage on 22 swings and she had one error.

Erica Bousema had 29 digs with Makenna Kooima getting to eight.

Megan Raszler had 22 assists and Campbell Marshall recorded 14.

Dordt is now 1-0 while Morningside is 3-2.
