Dordt Volleyball Sweeps Briar Cliff

The Dordt Defenders held off the Briar Cliff Chargers in set one of their conference match in Sioux City on Tuesday night and went on sweep the Chargers to start a three-match week.

Dordt trailed 4-1 in set one before seemingly taking control of the set with an 18-10 lead. Briar Cliff proceeded to score the next eight points before a Karsyn Winterfeld kill ended the run. Dordt never relinquished the lead but the hosts managed ties at 19, 20, 21 and 22 before back to back kills by Alli Timmermans and Jessi De Jager made it 24-22. Briar Cliff broke Dordt’s serve but a Corrina Timmermans kill gave Dordt a 25-23 win.

Dordt never trailed in set two although the Chargers trimmed the lead to 14-13. A three point run put the Defenders up 17-13 and they went on to win with little incident down the stretch for a 25-17 victory.

Briar Cliff had an early lead in set three and was up 11-7 when Dordt used a timeout. After the break Dordt got a kill from De Jager and an ace serve by Megan Raszler. A kill by Brenna Krommendyk eventually tied the set at 11-11. A tie followed again at 12-12 but Dordt pulled in front 17-13 and was never up by less than two on the way to a 25-19 win.

Dordt will travel to face Mount Marty on Friday night, October 23 before going to Omaha to play the College of Saint Mary on Saturday.
