The Dordt Defenders bounced back from back to back conference losses to defeat Hastings 3-1 on Friday night, October 16 in Sioux Center.
The Defenders held an early 7-4 lead inset one after a ball handling error by Hastings. The Broncos proceeded to reel off six unanswered points and never trailed again in the set. The Defenders closed to within 22-21 after an Alli Timmermans kill and the two teams traded points to make it 23-22 and 24-23 with Hastings eventually scoring the win on a service error.
Dordt recovered quickly and pushed the lead to 12-4 to start the second set. The start included three service aces by Corrina Timmermans and kills by four different Defenders. Hastings got as close as 22-20 but a block by Jessi De Jager started a 3-0 run by the Defenders to close the set.
Set three was similar as the Defenders got up 12-5 after Corrina Timmermans and Jessi De Jager scored back to back kills. Hastings rallied to within 14-13 after a block but Dordt got back to back points on a kill by Alli Timmermans and the rightside hitter teamed with Jori Bronner for block point and Dordt’s lead was never less than two again as Dordt prevailed in the set 25-17, again finishing the set on a 3-0 run.
The hosts controlled set four from the start and never let the lead dwindle below three before winning a 25-18 decision.
Dordt will host Doane on Saturday afternoon, October 17 at 4:00.
