Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt improved to 3-0 this season with a GPAC win over Morningside on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.
The match was moved from later in the season as Morningside had a match with Jamestown this weekend postponed and Dordt had an open weekend.
Set one was a tight affair with Morningside leading 17-13. Dordt came back to tie it with four straight points with Brenna Krommendyk and Jessi De Jager recording kills to end the run. Dordt didn’t take the lead until 20-19 on a Morning we side attack error and the lead went to two after a De Jager kill. De Jager eventually gave Dordt the winning point with a block for a 25-22 victory.
Dordt trailed set two as well with a 13-12 deficit but the Defenders took control with six of the next seven points and the lead was never less than three the rest of the set. This time it was De Jager and Corrina Timmermans providing the final points with kills in the 25-16 win.
With the momentum behind them, the Defenders rolled to a 25-17 win in set three. Dordt built a 19-9 lead after trailing 8-6 and Morningside never rallied in falling for the third time in four outings.
Dordt is now 2-0 in the GPAC and 3-0 overall. Morningside is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Dordt travels to Northwestern in Orange City on Tuesday, September 15.
