Dordt Women Battle Morningside Wednesday

Sioux City, Iowa –The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Morningside Mustangs on Wednesday, November 17 at 6:00.

The Morningside Mustangs are 2-2 this season and have won two games in a row since dropping the first two games of the season to Saint Xavier and Olivet Nazarene. Since those losses on November 5 and 6 the Mustangs have beaten MidAmerica Nazarene (84-64) and Dakota Wesleyan (73-63).

The Defenders are 5-1 this season with a loss to Grand View on October 28. Since then the Defenders have won four in a row over Dakota State, Bellevue, Marian and Valley City State.

Dordt is outscoring teams 74.8-66.8 and outrebound teams 39.2-34.7. The Defenders are converting 39.5 percent of its field goals and allow 42.3 and the Defenders have taken 154 free throws while opponents have 72 attempts. Dordt is making 78 percent of its free throws.

Ashtyn Veerbeek averages 19.3 points per game with 9.2 rebounds and has 2.8 blocked shots per game while making 54.7 percent of her field goal attempts. Bailey Beckman adds 10.2 points per game and Hayden Heimensen is at 9.8 points per game with 3.3 rebounds. Mya Chmielewski and Karly Gustafson add 9.5 and 9.2 points per game with Gustafson grabbing 5.8 rebounds.

Dordt will host Concordia on Saturday and travels to Briar Cliff on Tuesday, November 23.

Morningside is set to host Bellevue on November 20 before traveling to Doane next Tuesday.
