The Defenders earned their ninth win of the season and Erika Feenstra passed Amber Soodsma as Dordt’s all-time leading scorer by adding 14 points to her total of 1,738 career points Wednesday night.
Dordt opened the game on a 6-0 run and only gave up the lead once for the rest of the contest. After a Bailey White made shot for the Flames, Ashtyn Veerbeek followed Karly Gustafson’s made free throws with a three-pointer. Gustafson added two more points to stretch Dordt’s lead to 11, but Kenzi Hoit made a three at the buzzer to make the score 24-16 after one.
The Flames continued to edge closer as they continued their efficient shooting to eventually take the lead four minutes into the second quarter. Dordt regained the lead on a Karly Gustafson field goal and a three from Mya Chmielewski, maintaining their advantage to the break at 39-34.
Dordt exploded for 36 points in the third quarter which included a corner three by Erika Feenstra to give Dordt a 15-point lead and gave Feenstra the scoring record. After Karly Gustafson’s made shot in the final seconds, Dordt took a 65-48 lead into the final quarter.
The Defenders continued to add to their lead and outscored College of Saint Mary 18-11 in the fourth quarter to earn another GPAC win, an 83-59 victory on the road.
