Kleinhesselink, Vesey Push Chargers Past Broncos

Jaden Kleinhesselink and Quinn Vesey put on an offensive clinic in the Chargers 104-75 win over Hastings Wednesday. The duo combined for 60 points on 21-of-26 shooting, knocking down 12 3-pointers.

Kleinhesselink poured in a new season high 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting, 5-for-6 on 3-pointers, and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. He also added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Vesey put up a career-high 29 points, going 10-for-12 from the floor, 7-of-9 from deep, and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Vesey grabbed five boards, dished out two assists, and had five steals.

Both offenses were ready from the start, as the two teams combined to shoot 15-for-18 in the first seven minutes of action. A pair of free throws from Nick Hoyt tied the game at 20-20 with 12:34 left in the first half. The Broncos largest lead of the night was six with 9:40 remaining in the first half, after a Ben Juhl 2-point basket. BC answered with a 9-2 run to take a 37-34 lead with 4:18 remaining.

Vesey and Kleinhesselink paced the Chargers in the first 20 minutes with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Ben Juhl was key for the Broncos in the first half with 18 points, as the Cliff took a 46-41 lead into the break.

Briar Cliff set the tone in the first five minutes of the second half, connecting on five 3-pointers (3 from Kleinhesselink) in route to a 17-3 run to take a 63-44 lead. The Cliff extended their lead to 29 points after Vesey’s seventh 3-pointer of the night, with 3:22 left.

BC hit the 100-point mark after a Matthew Stilwill 2-point basket, and a 3-pointer from Spencer Schorg closed out the 104-75 Charger win.

Nick Hoyt added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and Quinten Vasa grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and dished out four assists. BC connected on a season-high 19 3-pointers on 36 attempts (53%) and held a 21-to-9 assist to turnover ratio.

Hastings held the edge in rebounding 31-27 and points in the paint 36-28. Ben Juhl led the Broncos with 30 points and Karson Gansebom chipped in 15 points.

BC is on a four-game win streak and move to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the GPAC. The Chargers is back in the Newman Flanagan Center Saturday, hosting the Doane Tigers. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
