Dordt Women Dominate Mount Marty

Every Dordt player in uniform scored in a strong all-around effort for the Defenders on Saturday.

The Defenders earned their 10th win on the season and 5th in a row heading into the final stretch of the regular season. It did not take long for the Defenders to jump ahead in this one as they scored 23 points in the first quarter alone and held the Lancers to nine points. Ashtyn Veerbeek started the game with 10 points in the opening quarter. The largest lead of the half came at the 2:22 mark as Riley Van Hulzen grabbed the offensive rebound and scored off the miss to give Dordt a 46-21 lead. Karly Gustafson’s shot in the paint gave the Defenders a 48-24 lead in the final minute of the first half.

Dordt continued to be aggressive on offense as the Defenders stretched their lead to as much as 31 points in the third quarter with a made shot in the paint by Bailey Beckman. In the closing seconds of the third, McKenna Klecker made a three off the assist by Jordyn Winterfeld to make the score 69-41 after three. Dordt’s balance of offensive and defensive efforts widened the gap throughout the fourth quarter as Mari Smitsdorff’s second chance bucket and a three from Faith Van Holland gave Dordt a 46-point lead on the way to a 90-46 win in GPAC play.

Dordt is now 10-6 and Mount Marty is 3-12

Dordt will face Jamestown in a home game on Thursday, January 14 at 6:00 pm.
