Devyn Kemble poured in a game-high 24 points in leading Northwestern to a 109-46 home win over College of Saint Mary in a conference match-up played Saturday afternoon at the Bultman Center.
This was the most points scored by the Raiders since the 2014-15 season (112 pts vs Grace); Northwestern earned its second straight win and improve to 7-5 in the GPAC, 7-8 overall.
Northwestern raced out to an 18-0 lead, led by Kemble and Taylor VanderVelde, who combined for 14 points during the run. The Raiders pushed their advantage to 30-8 by the end of the quarter and a 13-0 surge put the hosts in front 49-13 after a basket by Alexis Toering wth 6:03 left in the half.
Another 12-2 run to close the half put Northwestern up 61-15. Head Coach Chris Yaw’s squad shot 62% from the field and made 7-of-12 three-pointers (58%).
Northwestern scored the first 14 points of the third quarter, extending their lead to 76-15 on a basket by Hannah Nerem with 5:42 left in the third quarter.
The Raiders shot 54% for the game, 44% (11/25) from the three-point arc, and made 20-of-22 free throws. Kemble finished with 24 points, two shy of her career-high, and matched her career-best with six three-pointers (vs Jamestown last year). Maddi Jones scored 12 points, going 8-for-8 from the free throw line, and both Sammy Blum and Nerem contributed 10 points each. All 12 Northwestern players saw at least eight minutes of floor time.
Northwestern held a 40-26 edge on the boards, led by VanderVelde with six. Jada Cunningham matched her career-best with nine assists and Jones dished out six assists. The Raiders totaled a season-high 29 assists.
College of Saint Mary was led by Honnah Leo with 11 points, nine by Abbey Wilson; the Flames shot 35% for the game, 33% (5/15) from the three-point line.
