Dordt Women Dominate VCSU

Orange City, Iowa — The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team turned away Valley City State on Saturday afternoon, November 13 by a 95-67 final.

The game was never close with Dordt scoring the first 11 points of the game and 15 of the first 16 points. Dordt led 26-9 at the end of the first quarter and opened with a Karly Gustafson three-point shot that pushed the difference to 29-9. The lead continued to grow with Dordt scoring almost at will and the Defenders led 58-21 at halftime.

In the second half the Defenders expanded the lead to 78-33 after a pair of Ashtyn Veerbeek free throws and the Defenders were able to get all 12 players in uniform in the game for at least seven minutes and 11 out of 12 scored on the way to the 28-point win.

Dordt was 32-75 from the field and 13-38 from the arc while holding a 33-49 rebounding advantage.

Valley City State was 23-65 shooting and 8-21 from the three-point line for 37 and 38 precent respectively.

Ashtyn Veerbeek was 9-10 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line for 24 points and she had nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Karly Gustafson added 15 points and was 5-7 from the field with six rebounds and four assists.

Hayden Heimensen chipped in with 14 and made three-three point baskets with three assists.

Maggie Walker came off the bench to score 12 and had five rebounds and Bailey Beckman added eight points.

Dordt 5-1 and will play on the road against Morningside on Wednesday night.

Dordt will begin conference play on Wednesday night (Nov. 17) against No.6 Morningside. Tip-off in Sioux City, Iowa, is set for 6pm.
