Dordt Women Stage Comeback Win

The Dordt Defenders held at sixth place in the conference standings with the win at Mount Marty today, 62-56. The Lancers held a slight advantage throughout the game and kept momentum on their side through the first three quarters. A low-scoring first quarter saw Mount Marty take an 11-8 lead after one with three made shots from beyond the arc and missed opportunities by both teams off of turnovers and missed shot attempts.

After both teams traded points in the first two minutes of the second quarter, Mount Marty extended their lead to six on a made field goal by Sarah Castaneda. Minutes later, Bailey Beckman made a three to give Dordt a 23-22 lead. The Lancers ended the half with a three in the final seconds to take a 29-26 lead into halftime.

After Mount Marty started the third quarter on a 7-3 run, Dordt battled back to come within one point at the 3:58 mark off of a Jordyn Winterfeld made basket. Mount Marty answered once again with a run to lead 44-39 after three quarters.

The Defenders gained momentum as the fourth quarter progressed, and Bailey Beckman’s back-to-back made threes made the score 51-50 in favor of Mount Marty with 4:30 to go. Ashtyn Veerbeek made another three for Dordt, giving the Defenders a two-point lead with 2:44 remaining. Mount Marty answered with a three of their own the following possession, and Bailey Beckman drew a foul and made both free throws to tie the game at 55. Then, with 1:25 left, Erika Feenstra made a three to put the Defenders ahead 58-55. Mount Marty was unable to score again in the final minute as Dordt used a 9-0 run to secure the win for the Defenders.

Dordt is now 6-6 and Mount Marty is 3-7

Dordt will return to the court vs. Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday, December 31 at 3:00 pm in De Witt Gymnasium.
