Yankton, South Dakota — The Dordt women’s basketball team will travel to Yankton, South Dakota to face Mount Marty at 2:00 on Saturday, January 1.
The Lancers are 2-13 this season and 1-7 in the GPAC with a conference win over Midland and a non-conference win over Park-Gilbert. The win over Midland came on December 1 and stopped a seven-game losing skid and the win over Park-Gilbert came on December 19 and the Lancers have lost two in a row since then.
Dordt is 9-6 this season and 2-5 in the conference with league wins over Concordia and Northwestern. The Defenders are outscoring teams 72-68 and outrebound teams 38-35. Dordt is converting 41 percent of its field goals and allows 41 percent success.
Ashtyn Veerbeek leads the team with an 18.4 points per game average to go with 8.5 rebounds and she is making 50 percent of her field goals. Bailey Beckman scores 11 points per game and she has made a team high 26 three-point shots. Janie Schoonhoven is scoring 9.4 points per game with 6.4 rebounds, and she is making 65 percent of her field goals while Karly Gustafson is scoring 9.3 points per game with 8.2 rebounds. Hayden Heimensen adds 8.1 points per game and Mya Chmielewski is averaging 7.9 points per game with Macey Nielson knocking down 18 three-point baskets so far this year.
Dordt will be off until January 7 and 8 when the Defenders face Hastings and Jamestown at home on back to back dates.
