Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt women’s basketball is hosting the 7th-seeded Jamestown Jimmies in GPAC quarterfinal action on Wednesday, February 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM at De Witt Gymnasium.
The Jimmies are 18-12 this season and 11-11 in GPAC play. The Jimmies stopped a two game losing skid with a win over the College of Saint Mary on February 17 and are 2-4 in their last six games. The Jimmies have been up and down since January 1, taking four losses in a row from January 1-12 and then winning five games in a row from January 15-29.
The Dordt Defenders are 23-7 this season and 16-6 in league play. Dordt saw a 15 game winning streak stopped on Wednesday, February 16 in a loss to Northwestern, 72-62. The loss was the first for Dordt since an 80-75 setback against Dakota Wesleyan on December 11.
The Defenders are scoring 74.7 points per game at a 43.9% mark from the field. Dordt is led in scoring by Ashtyn Veerbeek, who is averaging 18.7 points per game to go with 9.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Bailey Beckman averages 13.0 points while Karly Gustafson is the other Defender averaging double-digits with 11.3 points per outing.
A win would advance the Defenders to the GPAC semifinal, where they would face the winner of Dakota Wesleyan versus Concordia.
