Dordt Women Travel To Midland Saturday

The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team will play a game in Fremont, Nebraska to open the GPAC season. The contest starts at 2:00 against Midland.

The Midland women are 4-0 this season and 1-0 in the GPAC. The Warriors started the season on October 22 with a win over Kansas Wesleyan (78-59) and followed that with wins over Presentation (82-57), Bellevue (77-69) and Concordia (91-79).

Shawn Gilbert’s team is averaging 82 points per game and allow 66 points per contest. Midland features a defense that limits teams to 22.7 percent three-point shooting and 39.1 percent from the field. The Warriors are also averaging a 46-40.3 rebounding edge.

Lexis Haase scores 16.5 points per game and takes in 7.3 rebounds per game. Makenna Sullivan and Katy Gathje each average 11 points per game and convert better than 60 percent of their field goals. Sullivan and Gathje are taking in 8.8 and 7.0 rebounds per game respectively. Lexi Kraft and Kennedy Darmer both average 9.3 and 8.8 points per game and Sam Shepard’s average is 8.3.

Dordt is 1-2 this season with a win over Grand View (75-64) and losses to Dakota State (79-60) and Sterling (80-71).

Dordt is getting outscored 74.3-68.7 through three games. Dordt has outrebounded teams 46.7-37.7 but have converted 34.9 percent of its field goals and 28.6 percent of its three-point shots. Teams are making 44.1 percent of its field goals and 28.6 percent of its three-point shots.

Erika Feenstra is scoring 11 points per game with 6.0 rebounds and Bailey Beckman is averaging 10.7 points per game with 46.2 percent three-point shooting. Ashtyn Veerbeek and Karly Gustafson each average 9.7 points per game with 7.0 and 5.3 rebounds respectively. Baylee Tetzlaff is at 5.7 points per game with 4.0 rebounds. Jordyn Winterfeld is leading the team with 4.0 assists per game.

Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, November 18 before going to Concordia on Saturday, November 21.
