Central Lyon George Little Rock In Saturday 2A Semifinals

Northwest Iowa — #3 Central Lyon George Little Rock and #9 Comanche meet in the 2A state football semifinals on Saturday at 4:00 pm. We’ll bring you the coverage on KIWA FM 105.3 as LA and Justin bring you pregame beginning at 3:30 from the dome.

The Lions advanced to the UNI-Dome with a 34-13 victory over West Lyon in a quarterfinal at Dick Null Field. It only took three plays for the Lions to take control of the game as quarterback Zach Lutmer took off for a 58-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. The 58 yards accounted for part of the 420 that the Lions ran for as a team. CL/GLR had 473 yards of total offense.

Comanche advanced with a 34-20 win over West Liberty in their quarterfinal. The Indians opened the contest with a 99 yard kick off return for a touchdown and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Comanche was up 21-0 at the half and took a 34-0 lead before West Liberty got on the board in the third quarter. With a balanced attack the Indians quarterback put up 186 yards and 2 touchdowns passing. Leading rusher Cade Everson accounted for 167 yards rushing and a pair of scores.

The Lions are unbeaten at 10-0 while Comanche comes in at 9-1. The CL-G-LR offense revolves around sophomore quarterback Zack. He’s completed 52 of 94 attempts for 965 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 1,347 yards and another 20 touchdowns. On defense senior Kalen  Meyer leads the way with 49 tackles including 3 for a loss with 1 sack 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception.

For the Comanche Indians junior Mike Delzell has completed 131 of 198 passing attempts for 2004 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 69 yards and another pair of scores. The running game is led by senior Cade Everson who has rushed for 1,490 yards on 196 carries. He’s found the end zone 18 times. He also has 260 yards receiving and 4 touchdown catches. The defense is led by junior Eric Kinkaid with 84 tackles including 13 for a loss. He also has 2 sacks.

A big key for the Lions offense will be controlling the line of scrimmage.

On defense controlling the Comanche play playmakers will be the main concern.

We asked Indians Head Coach Dustin Coit about the strength of his team and the answer was balance.
