Dordt Women Win Battle Of Ranked Teams

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team used a surge early in the fourth quarter to build a double-digit lead and hung on for a 92-84 win over the Northwestern Red Raiders in GPAC action on Wednesday night at the De Witt Gym.

The first half was tight through out with Northwestern holding a pair of six point leads before settling for a 45-43 lead after Dordt scored four unanswered points on a bucket by Karly Gustafson and a basket by Rachel Evavold.

Dordt added to the 4-0 run to start the third quarter with three straight baskets by Erika Feenstra to get the lead to 49-45.

With both teams hitting shots consistently the lead bounced back and forth and the two teams were tied 13 times through the end of the third quarter. A Baylee Tetzlaff basket put Dordt up 69-67 at the end of the third quarter.

Dordt got some separation and led 83-72 after a Rachel Evavold basket with 4:57 remaining. Evavold’s basket finished a seven point run started by a Feenstra basket which led to an Ebby Prewitt three-point shot.

Northwestern rallied to within 83-79 but four straight points effectively ended the threat with Dordt leading 87-79 with under a minute to go and the Defenders settled for an eight point win by converting free throws.

Dordt is now 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the GPAC.

Northwestern is 6-1 and 2-1.
