Des Moines, Iowa — The Dordt Defender men’s track and field team sent a large contingent to the Drake Relays and the Dordt women had many solid performances that filled day two of the Drake Relays on Saturday morning, April 24.
Dordt got an individual champion performance by Matthew Van Eps in the 800 meters where he clocked a 1:50.14 to win the title. To cap the day the 4×400 team of Micah Brands, Payton Mauldin, Cole Zevenbergen and Van Eps narrowly missed Dordt’s second relay title of the weekend with a 3:16.94 where they closed a 1.5 second gap in the final 400 meters but ran out of track and got nipped by .01 of a second.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Kyle Baumert, Josh de Jong, Justin Groen, Joshua Van Hulzen also turned in a silver winning performance in 1:02.37.
Anmarie Stuit met the NAIA provisional standard in the 400 hurdles with a 1:03.99 which was good for sixth place and she was part of a 4×400 team along with Emma Bakker, Annika Rick and Mika Kooistra that ran a 3:52.36 also for sixth place.
Dordt’s next competition will be on Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1 at the GPAC Championships in Seward, Nebraska.
