Sioux Center, Iowa — Ashtyn Veerbeek (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) scored 16 points against IU East on Friday afternoon, March 11 in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round and became the 18th women’s basketball player in Dordt history to score 1,000 career points for the Defenders.
Veerbeek ended the day with 16 points and added another 13 on Saturday in a one-point win over Sterling as the Defenders advanced to the round of 16 in Sioux City, Iowa this weekend. Veerbeek currently ranks 17th all-time at Dordt with 1,012 points and passed Julia DeKoekkoek (2007-11) with 1,006 and trails McKinzie Schmidt (2006-10) with 1,021. Veerbeek also became the 17th player in Dordt program history to snare 600 career rebounds and currently has 609.
The Defenders have posted a program best 26 wins this season and will play Campbellsville (Kentucky) in the next round of the NAIA National Championship bracket on Friday night, March 18 at 6:00 pm.
