Des Moines, Iowa — The Drake University men’s basketball team is set to host Coe College on Tuesday Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
Prior to the game, Drake Athletics will be unveiling the team’s NCAA Tournament banner from the 2020-2021 season. The Bulldogs recorded their first tournament win in 50 years and recorded the program’s first appearance since 2008.
The 2020-21 season was nothing short of historic for Drake. On top of their NCAA Tournament Appearance, Drake also received a No. 25 ranking in February from the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and The Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports Top 25, after an 18-0 start to last season.
The Bulldogs host Coe after their lone exhibition game against Drury. Drake won 96-49 with redshirt sophomore Okay Djamgouz leading the pack with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Senior’s Tremell Murphy and ShanQuan Hemphill combined for 25 points in their final exhibition game in a Drake uniform. Hemphill was named the 2020-2021 MVC Newcomer of the Year.
Hemphill and fellow senior Roman Penn were named to the Lou Henson National Player of the Year watch list, as announced on Nov. 4.
Penn led the Bulldogs with four assists against Drury. He currently sits in second place in the Bulldogs History books for all time assists. He needs 60 more to claim the number one spot. Penn was also named to the All-MVC First Team last season.
In the Bulldogs last meeting with Coe in 2017, Drake won 101-54. Drake sunk 16 three-pointers in the game, five of which came from former Bulldogs Graham Woodward.
Drake leads the all-time series with Coe, 3-2, and have won the last three meetings dating back to 1921.
After their season opener against Coe, Drake will host South Dakota on Sunday Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
