Drake Relays director Blake Boldon on high school qualifying

Des Moines, Iowa (RI) – Drake Relays director Blake Boldon says nice weather plays a part, but coaching is the biggest reason the marks have been high early in the track season for Iowa high schools.

As of Wednesday, nearly 90 competitors across the state had already reached the Blue Standard, the mark needed to compete in this month’s Drake Relays.

Boldon says the “Blue Standard” was established a couple of years ago to let athletes know what it will take to automatically qualify for Drake in their event.

Boldon says the final day to attempt to qualify for the Drake Relays will be April 17th.
