Early 26-2 Run Propels #22 Chargers To 75-53 Win Over Hastings

Sioux City, Iowa — The #22 Briar Cliff men’s basketball team downed Hastings 75-53 Friday night in the Newman Flanagan Center. After surrendering the first seven points of the contest, the Chargers responded with a 26-2 run to take control of the game.

The Broncos scored the first seven points of the contest, forcing a BC timeout after two minutes of play. The Chargers answered with a 26-2 run over the next eight minutes, with eight different Chargers scoring during the run. A 3-pointer from Carson Kruger gave BC their largest lead of the half, 42-16 with 2:48 left in the half.

BC shot 53.57% from the field in the first half and 45.45% from deep, compared to 24.14% shooting and 14.29% from the 3-point line for the Broncos. The Chargers also received 20 points from their bench unit as they held a 44-20 lead at halftime.

The Chargers pushed their lead to 29 points early in the second half after a Quinn Vesey 3-pointer. BC cruised in the second half, as they held a double-digit lead throughout.

Jaden Kleinhesselink led the way with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Boerhave nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Off the BC bench, Matthew Stilwill scored seven points and had seven rebounds, while Carson Kruger scored five points and grabbed six rebounds.

In total, nine Chargers scored five or more points and seven knocked down a 3-pointer. For the 11th time this season BC knocked down at least 10 3-pointers. The Chargers outscored the Broncos 35-10 in bench points and 30-22 in points in the paint.

Karson Gansebom had a game high 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting with four 3-pointers. Grady Corrigan added eight points.

The Chargers are back in the NFC tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. for a Senior Day matchup with RV Jamestown.
