Fast Starts Give ELC Sweep Over Western Christian

Estherville, Iowa — Fast starts by both the ELC girls and boys gave the Midgets the sweep Tuesday night in Estherville. The girls game went to ELC 69-40, and the boys game 82-74.

The ELC girls jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the first quarter and led after one quarter of play 26-4 behind 16 first quarter points from Haylee Stokes. At halftime the Midgets had the 53-17 lead, after three it was 63-31, and Estherville-Lincoln Central went on to win 69-40.

ELC had two players in double figures. Stokes had a game high 29 points, followed by Rylee Yager with 14. Western Christian had a team high 9 points from Stella Winterfeld.

With the win ELC improves to 5-0 on the year, 1-0 in the Lakes. Western Christian falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Estherville-Lincoln Central started the boys game on fire, jumping out an 8-0 lead early and had a 20-11 lead after one. Western Christian was able to claw their way back in the second pulling to within 31-29 heading into halftime. ELC started the second half on fire again and took a 63-50 lead into the fourth, and held on for the 82-74 win. The Midgets had 15 three pointers in the game.

Estherville-Lincoln Central had four players in double figures. A game high 26 from sophomore Owen Larson, 19 points from Ryan Schiltz, 12 points from Blake Ingvall, and 10 points from Jack Jensen. Western Christian had four players in double figures. Ty Van Essen had a team high 20 points, Tate Van Regenmorter had 12, Wyatt Gulker added 11 and Eli Van Essen put in 10 points.

With the win, ELC improves to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the conference. Western falls to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Lakes.

Up next for Western Christian is a road trip to Le Mars Thursday with opening tip off for the girls at 5:30 pm.
