Accolades continue to pour in for Dordt Unviersity senior and former George-Little Rock track and field standout Payton Mauldin. The senior received a pair of national honors this week, taking home the NAIA Men’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week as well as the weekly award from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA).
Earlier in the week, Mauldin was named the GPAC Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week for the third time and now claims the national honor for the second time this season.
Notes:
- hit three qualifying marks and set a school record at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite held last weekend in Lincoln, Neb.
- finished second to an NCAA D-I runner in the 400m with a school record time of 46.99, breaking the old record set in 2012
- 400m time ranks 1st in the NAIA
- the next day, hit the auto mark again in the 800m and anchored the Defenders 4×400 relay with a 46.1 split while helping his team meet the ‘A’ standard for the third time
- Mauldin has qualified for nationals in four individual events; 200m, 400m, 600m and 800m
- he is ranked first in the nation in the 400m, 600m and 800m
- Mauldin has also qualified in two relays (4×400 and 4×800) where the Defenders have the No.2 time in the 4×400 and top time in the NAIA
