Fynaardt Garners All-American Honors In Overwatch From NAECAD

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — The National Association of Esports Coaches & Directors (NAECAD) recently announced their All-American team from the 2020-21 competition season. Northwestern’s Kit Fynaardt (Sr., Orange City, Iowa/Unity Christian) was named an All-American in Overwatch for the Red Raiders.

Fynaardt served as a team captain and starting main tank player for the Red Raider Overwatch squad and led the team to their Fall 2021 GGLeagues championship win. His honor makes history for Red Raider Esports, being the first All-American in any game at Northwestern.

He guided an Overwatch squad that went 9-1 in the 2021 season, winning every contest in the regular season with a 3-0 score. Entering the GGLeagues Playoffs, the Red Raiders defeated Hawkeye Community College (3-0) and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (3-1) before falling to Amarillo College (Texas).

He graduated from Northwestern College this past spring with degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. This fall he will attend the University of Iowa to pursue his Ph.D. in Mathematics with the goal of becoming a mathematics professor in the future.
