The Gehlen Catholic Jays fell in straight sets in the Class 1A semifinal round Wednesday night.
Notre Dame jumped out to an early 12-5 lead and never looked back in the first set. The Nikes were first to 20 at 20-14, and won 25-19.
The Nikes started off with a 4-0 run, but the Jays battled back to tie the set at 7-7, but a 5-0 run by Notre Dame gave the Nikes a 13-8 lead. Notre Dame had a 22-17 lead, and went on to win 25-18.
Set three was close up to the end. Notre Dame held a slight 9-8 advantage, but the Jays jumped in front at 14-11. The Nikes then went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-14 lead and the Notre Dame lead ballooned to 18-14. The Jays battled back to within 1 at 21-20, but a 4-0 run by Notre Dame put the set and game away.
