Granstra, Gaines Earn GPAC Player Of The Week Honors

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, September 22, 2018.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2019 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Defense – Ben Granstra, Linebacker (Northwestern College)
Northwestern linebacker Ben Granstra is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Granstra, a freshman, from Sheldon, Iowa, led the Raider defense with eight tackles and two quarterback sacks. He was one of the keys in holding DWU to 262 yards of total offense, well below their season average. He also added three tackles for a loss and a pass break up. Northwestern, ranked fifth in last week’s poll, host the Doane Tigers on September 29.  Kick off will be at 1:30 pm.

Special Teams – Brett Gaines, Kicker (Dordt College)
Brett Gaines of Dordt College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Gaines, a senior, from Wood River, Illinois, was busy in the Defenders 55-17 win over Hastings. He was a perfect 7-for-7 on PAT attempts and added a pair of field goals, including a long of 34-yards. Dordt will host Concordia on September 29. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
