Haken Signs With Dordt Basketball

Matt Haken, a senior at George Little Rock High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

“We are excited to have Matt join our Defender Family. His best basketball is still ahead of him, as a developing post player. He got better every year in high school, and we look forward to his development at Dordt. As an Engineering student, he fits the mold of a true student-athlete on the Dordt campus,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

Haken averaged 16.6 points per game with 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 blocks and 3.2 assists per game for the Mustangs this season and he converted 57 percent of his field goal attempts. He scored over 700 points during his career with nearly 500 rebounds and over 150 blocked shots. Haken was named a first-team all-Siouxland Conference member and was a second-team Northwest Iowa Review selection. He was both an academic all-state and IBCA All-Star game selection in 2020 and helped his team to a district final in both 2019 and 2020. Haken’s George Little Rock team qualified for the state tournament in 2018.

“I chose Dordt because it is a Christ-centered college where I will be able to receive a great education and grow in my faith,” said Haken.

Matt is the son of Mark and Amy Haken from Little Rock, Iowa. He plans to study Civil Engineering at Dordt.
