Heelan Sweeps Wolfpack

Sioux City, Iowa — The Bishop Heelan Crusaders swept the Wolfpack Saturday afternoon at the Pit in Sioux City. The Wolfpack fell 52-35 in the girls game, while the Western boys lost in overtime 49-47.

The Heelan girls led at all the breaks in the girls game. It was 15-6 after one, and heading into the break the Crusaders had a 22-16 lead. After three Heelan extended their lead to ten, at 35-25, and came away with the 52-35 win.

Heelan got a game high twelve from Ella Skinner. Western got a team high ten from Macay Van’t Hul

With the win Bishop Heelan improves to 12-3 on the year. Western falls to 9-8 on the season.

In the boys contest, the Crusaders were able to make a late comeback after being down most of the game. After the first quarter, Western had a 15-11 lead. Heading into the intermission, Western extended their lead to 25-14. After three, the Wolfpack had a 39-29 lead, but in the fourth quarter, Heelan outscored Western 14-4 to send it into overtime.

In the extra frame, Heelan was able to take the lead late, and the Wolfpack couldn’t get a last second shot off and Heelan came away with the victory.

Western got a game high eighteen from Carter Broek, while Dawson Feenstra added fifteen. The Crusaders got a team high seventeen from Tommy Schiltz, and Brant Hogue added fourteen.

With the win Heelan improves to 4-12 on the year. Western falls to 10-5 on the season.

Up next for the Wolfpack is a road contest to Storm Lake on Tuesday. Heelan girls are at home on Tuesday to Lewis Central, while the Crusader boys are off until Friday at Sioux City West.
