Wolfpack Sweeps E-LC In Lakes Conference Basketball

Hull, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack took a pair of Lakes Conference varsity basketball games from the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets Friday night on the Western Christian gym floor. The Wolfpack girls downed the Midgets 76-54, and the boys sent E-LC home on the short end of a 67-39 final.

In a somewhat strange turn of events, E-LC Coach Don Martindale didn’t play his normal starters all throughout the first quarter of the girls contest. By the time Martindale put in his normal lineup to start the second quarter, the Wolfpack had already taken a 28-8 lead, and the Midgets were never able to get back into the ball game. Western led at the half 46-28, and had taken their lead to 63-42 at the end of three before coasting to a 76-54 win.

Western’s Olivia Granstra led all scorers with 18 points on the night. Three other Wolfpack players joined Granstra in double figures, they were Emma Bousema with 13, Ally Postma with 11, and Macay Van’t Hul with 10. Abby Postma and Madison Vis each contributed 6 points to the Wolfpack tally, with Makenna Kooima contributing 5, Hannah Kollis came off the bench to add 3 points, with Courtney Kollis and Cassie Van Otterloo each scoring 2.

Estherville-Lincoln Central had two scorers in double figures, Kendall Evans with 12 and Amara Heinrichs with 10 points.

With the win, Western Christian extends their season record to 9-7 overall, and 6-4 in the Lakes Conference. E-LC drops to 9-9 overall, and 3-6 in the league.

In the boys contest, the Western Christian Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Wolfpack led at all the breaks, 18-10 at the end of 1, 40-16 at halftime, 50-30 at the end of 3, going on to take a 67-39 win.

Western’s Dawson Feenstra led all scorers with 24 points on the night, 18 of those coming from beyond the 3-point arc. Carter Broek added 9, Ty Van Essen and Justin Bleeker each contributed 7 to the Wolfpack tally, while Clay Van Tol and Tate Winterfeld each scored 5, Harry Steele had 4, with Cole Zevenbergen, Trevor Anderson and Parker Vis each adding 2.

Estherville-Lincoln Central had just one player in double figures, with Will Larson scoring 15 points.

With the win Western extends their season record to 10-4 overall, and 7-2 in the Lakes Conference, while Estherville-Lincoln Central drops to 4-14 on the year, and are still looking for their first Lakes Conference win at 0-9.

Following Friday night’s win, the Wolfpack turns around and heads to Sioux City Saturday to take on Sioux City Heelan in non-conference action. We’ll have that game and all Western Christian games, all season long on KIWA-FM 105.3. Stino and Wes Fopma will have the call. Pregame for the girls contest begins at 2:50 Saturday afternoon for a scheduled 3:00 opening tip, with the boys game to follow.
