Orabs and Mustangs Split Basketball Doubleheader

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon and George Little Rock split a basketball doubleheader at the Sheldon High School Gym Friday night. Sheldon took the girls game 66-51 with the boys game going to the Mustangs 66-39.

Sheldon led at all the breaks in the girls game as they took a 20-15 first quarter lead and were up 33-23 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 44-35 with Sheldon winning 66-51.

Both teams put three players in double figures. Sheldon got a game high 13 from Maliah Kleinhesselink. Brooklyn Grady hit for 12 with Reagan Freeman adding 11 points. G-LR got 12 points each from Madisen Dreesen and Courtney Dykstra. Kayla Gerken pumped in 10 for the Mustangs.

With the win Sheldon is now 8-10 on the year and 5-10 in the conference. George Little Rock is 3-15 for the season and 2-13 in the Siouxland.

In the boys game it was the Mustangs that led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and moved to a 32-12 advantage at halftime. They would go on to win 66-39. Four players hit double figures for G-LR with Payton Mauldin hitting a game high 15 including 11 in the third quarter. Lucas Nagel and Caleb Terhark were next with 12 apeace. Landon Jumbeck added 11 points. Sheldon was led by Tyler Lode with a 10 point night.

George Little Rock the #2 team in Class 1A moved to 15-2 on the season and 12-2 in the Siouxland. The Orabs are 4-13 for the year and 2-12 in the conference.

Up next for the Orabs will be a Tuesday pair of home games against Central Lyon while the Mustangs are at Okoboji on Tuesday night.
