HMS Advances To District Semis

HMS logoHartley Iowa — Hartley Melvin Sanborn opened tournament play at home Tuesday night posting a 73-47 win over Sibley Ocheyedan. With the win the Hawks advance to the Class 2A District 2 semis Thursday at the Western Christian Gym.

The Generals started out quickly taking an early four point lead. The Hawks Jordan Japenga made a long three pointer and was fouled. The free throw was good tying the game at four apiece. HMS took their first lead of the night on another three by Japenga making the score 9-6. The Hawks would never relinquish the lead posting a 19-13 first quarter advantage. The Generals were in foul trouble throughout the first half, putting the Hawks on the free throw line. HMS shot for a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line in the second quarter going 14-16 in the first half taking a 38-29 lead into halftime.

The second half would belong to the Hawks as they started the half with another three by Japenga on their way to a 73-47 victory moving on to the second round where they will face the Sheldon Orabs at 6:30 pm Thursday night from the Western Christian gym in Hull.

Blake Simons led all scorers with 28 points while going 10-12 from the free throw line. Brian Perez scored 17 points and Jordan Japenga finished with 14 points for the Hawks. The Generals were lead in scoring by Carson Marco with 10 points. The Generals finish the season with a 3-19 record while the Hawks move on with a 12-10 record.

The late game tipping off at 8:00 Thursday night will match Okoboji a 72-53 winner over Estherville Lincoln Central Tuesday night againstg the host team Wolfpack.
