Hoogland To Run For Dordt

Katlyn Hoogland, a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender track and cross country programs.

Hoogland has personal bests of 20:42 on a 5,000 meter cross country course, 2:29 in the 800 meters and 11:44 in the 3,000 meters. Hoogland earned all-conference honors twice in cross country including a runner-up finish in 2016. She helped Unity to a sixth place finish in cross country in 2015 and a 14th place finish in 2016. Hoogland was a part of two 4×800 meter relay teams that placed at the state meet with a 4th and 6th place finish respectively in 2016 and 2017.

“I am pleased to have Katlyn join our cross country and distance programs. She comes from an incredibly successful Unity Christian program under the guidance of Coach Mark Kauk, and has competed well on the course and on the track for all four years of high school. After a strong start to her senior season, she was knocked out by mono. I am excited to see her pick up this spring where she was during the cross country season before she got sick. She is a hard worker and has good range from the middle distance events through the distance events on the track. Additionally, she is a gifted and disciplined student. I am excited to see her grow and contribute on our team and across our campus the next four years,” said Dordt College cross country head coach and assistant track and field coach Nate Wolf.

Katlyn is the daughter of Marlin and Valerie Hoogland of Orange City, Iowa.
