KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Bekah Horstman (Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian) caps off a stellar senior campaign with Honorable Mention All-American honors from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organizations announced this morning.
“Bekah had a great senior season with being third national in blocks per set,” said head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. “She also had a great year offensively for us and was the focal point of most teams’ scouting reports. This is a well-deserved honor for Bekah!”
The honor marks the first All-American accolade for Horstman, as she was part of a Northwestern program that made it to Sioux City all four years she donned a Raider uniform, as well as making it to three straight NAIA Quarterfinal appearances.
Sitting second on the team in kills with 325 (2.83 kills/set), only behind the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Freshman of the Year Alysen Dexter. Playing in all 115 sets the Raiders competed in this season, she hit a team-best .339 with 731 attempts.
The Pella, Iowa native was a major force to be reckoned with at the net, causing opposing attackers fits all season long. She sat sixth in the NAIA with 154 total blocks on the season, 25 of them being solo blocks. Her 1.34 blocks/set sat third in the NAIA, making her a dominant force at the net. Both of her blocking marks led the dominant Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) this season.
In her career, Horstman has earned three GPAC All-Conference honors, including two Second Team honors (2018, 2019) and a first team honor this season (2021). In 2018, she was also named the GPAC Freshman of the Year.
This season marks the 15th straight year a Raider volleyball student-athlete has been recognized as an All-American either by the NAIA, AVCA, or both organizations.
