Iowa City, Iowa (RI) – Iowa has hired Ben McCollum as its new basketball coach.
In his one and only season at Drake, McCollum led the Bulldogs to a school record 31 wins and their deepest run in the NCAA Tournament in 54 years. Prior to that, he spent 15 years as the head coach at Northwest Missouri State and led the school to four NCAA Division II national championships.
Four key members of the Drake team played for McCollum at Northwest Missouri State.
That’s McCollum after the Bulldogs were eliminated by Texas Tech over the weekend in Wichita.
McCollum says a key to his success has been finding players who are the right fit.
Iowa will hold a Tuesday afternoon news conference to introduce McCollum.
