Keizer Takes Over As Western Christian Boys Basketball Coach

Hull, Iowa — Western Christian High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Keizer as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach.

Keizer graduated from Western Christian in 2003 and has been the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Dordt College for the last nine years. In his tenure with Dordt, Keizer helped the program win a GPAC regular season title and a GPAC post-season tournament championship. Dordt earned 2012, 2013, and 2014 National Tournament berths under his assistance. Those three trips produced two Elite Eight berths. Prior to his time at Dordt, Keizer was a teacher and coach at San Jose Christian in California.

Ross Douma, Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Dordt College says,“Derek Keizer is the right person to lead the storied Western Christian basketball program forward.  He was instrumental the past nine years in shaping our basketball program as he was involved in every facet of planning during this time.  Coach Keizer has the complete skill set in that he relates well to players, is a skilled tactician, and has superior organizational skills.  His presence in our athletic department will be sorely missed, but we are excited to watch him flourish as he leads the Wolfpack program.”

Travis Kooima, the new Activities Director for 2018-19 at Western Christian, says “We are excited to announce Derek as our new head basketball coach at Western Christian. Western Christian has an unmatched basketball tradition in the state of Iowa of which Coach Keizer has been a part of as a player. Now, through his coaching experience, he is ready to continue the great tradition established by Jim Eekhoff and Bill Harmsen as our next head basketball coach.”

In addition to his coaching duties Keizer will also teach business and physical education classes at Western Christian
