Lakes Conference Schools Accept Western Christian Withdrawal Request

Northwest Iowa — The Lakes Conference and its member schools have accepted a request from Western Christian High School to withdraw from the conference, effective and the end of the 2021-22 school year.

Official action on the conference’s acceptance of the request was taken at the Lakes Conference Superintendent meeting on February 10.

In submitting its request, Western Christian cited challenges, particularly related to travel, that the school and its student-athletes face when it comes to participating in conference competitions and events.

As part of this action, the Lakes Conference and its member schools respectfully request that Western Christian maintain its commitment to remaining in the conference through the end of the 2021-22 school year. Upon its decision to withdraw, Western Christian will be asked not to reapply to join the Lakes Conference for the next 10 years.

In addition to Western Christian, Lakes Conference includes Cherokee Schools, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Spencer Community School District, Spirit Lake Community Schools, and the Storm Lake Community School District.
