Lions Sweep Orabs

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Sheldon Orabs dropped a pair on the road in Siouxland Conference action to Central Lyon. The Lions would win the girls game 67-55 and the boys 50-40.

The girls game started out fast paced and would end in a 12 all tie after one quarter of play. The Lions came out in the second quarter and would turn up the defensive pressure creating some offensive opportunities led by Kaylee Davis with nine points in the quarter pushing the Lions to a 31-20 lead at half. Central Lyon pushed out to a 20-point lead early in the third and would maintain that advantage throughout the quarter and led 55-35 after three. The Orabs would gain some momentum in the fourth quarter but could not cut the lead to single digits and would fall 67-55.

The Lions were lead with four players in double digits led by 14 from Addison Klosterbuer, 13 apiece from Hayden Heimensen and Kaylee Davis and 11 points from Desta Hoogendorn. The Orabs had two players with 13 points apiece from Claire Johnson and Maliah Kleinhesselink.

The Lions improved to 3-1 overall and in the conference and the Orabs would fall to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Sheldon boys would fall behind by 11 early in the first quarter but showed good patience and would close the gap to 16-10 after one quarter of play. The Orabs took their momentum into second quarter behind 10 points from Tye Sudbeck and narrowed the Lions lead at half to 25-23. The third quarter was pretty even the first few minutes before Central Lyon would heat up from behind the arc and push out to a 38-33 at the end of the third. The Orabs would tie the game and it went back and forth until the Lions stepped up their defensive pressure forcing turnovers down the stretch by the Orabs and converting their free throws when the Orabs were forced to foul and go onto a 50-40 victory.

The Lions had two players in double figures led by Mason Gerleman with 12 and 11 from Cooper Spies. Tye Sudbeck led the Orabs with 16 points.

The Lions improve to 2-1 in the conference and overall and the Orabs would fall to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Next up for Sheldon will be a home contest on Tuesday evening and Central Lyon will travel to Spirit Lake on Saturday night.
