(Sioux City, Iowa) – Honors for the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Season have been announced.
The top Track and Field Performances-of-the-Meet and the Coach-of-the-Year honors were voted on by the league coaches. GPAC Athlete-of-the-Year honors went to the highest individual point scorers in the meet. Also, the top eight individuals in each event are considered GPAC All-Conference performers.
Lauren Tamayo from Hastings was named the Female GPAC Athlete-of-the-Meet scoring 30 points. Payton Mauldin from Dordt and Zach Turner from Doane were named the Co-Male GPAC Athletes-of-the-Meet both scoring 24 points. These individuals will be honored as the Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Indoor Track and Field Athletes-of-the-Year.
The Outstanding Performances -of-the-Meet were voted on by the league coaches and are as follows:
Women’s Track Performance –
Nisa Thomas, Hastings – 60 Meter Hurdles (8.60)
Women’s Field Performance –
Josie Puelz, Concordia – Pole Vault (4.09m/13-05.00)
Men’s Track Performance –
Ben Jefferies, Briar Cliff – 400 meters (47.99)
Men’s Field Performance –
Matt Campbell, Doane – Weight Throw (20.19m/66-03.00)
Three records were broken on the women’s side this past weekend. Daisey Maessner from Hastings ran 7.59 in the 60 meter dash. Nisa Thomas from Hastings ran 8.60 in the 60 meter hurdles. Josie Puelz from Concordia cleared 4.09m (13-05.00) in the pole vault. Lauren Tamayo of Hastings cleared 1.68m (5-06.00) in the high jump in the pentathlon to tie her record from 2021.
Three records were set on the men’s side. Ben Jefferies of Briar Cliff ran 47.99 in the 400 meters. Jebadiah Merkle from Dordt ran 2:29.88 in the 1000 meters. Davis Tebben from Dordt ran 14:55.72 in the 5000 meters.
The Jim McMahon – Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Indoor Coach-of-the-Year is Matt Beisel representing the Concordia University Women’s Track and Field Program and Coaching Staff. The Bulldogs won the women’s title on Saturday with 194.5 points.
The Fred Beile – Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Coach-of-the-Year is Ed Fye representing the Doane University Men’s Track and Field Program and Coaching Staff. The Tigers won the men’s title on Saturday with 198 points.
