SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The 2021 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship, presented by Bomgaars championship game is set. No.1 seed Thomas Moore (Ky.) and No. 2 seed Westmont (Calif.) will battle for the red banner Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Tyson Events Center.
No. 1 Thomas More (Ky.) def. No. 5 Morningside (Iowa) 65-62 in the semifinals of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship to make their first championship game appearance. Thomas More took a 16-point lead with 3 minutes left in the second quarter and looked like they had command of the game before the 3-point attack from the Mustangs cut the lead to just six heading into the intermission.
The 3-point shot continued to fall for Morningside as they connected on 14 from downtown to take a one-point lead with just under 8 minutes left in the game. Thomas More was able to rally and score three straight baskets to take a six-point to take back the lead and hold on down the stretch to advance to the final.
Thomas More improves to 4-0 all-time in the NAIA tournament. Morningside falls to 42-16. Taylor Clos led the Saints with 14 points, five assists. Emily Simon scored 11 points and Zoie Barth added 14 rebounds, seven points.
Morningside’s Sierra Mitchell scored a game-high 27 points and was 7-17 from beyond the arc.
