Sheldon, Iowa — Record-setting performances in men’s golf highlighted a busy week for Northwest Iowa Community College Thunder Athletics, while soccer, volleyball and sports shooting demonstrated determination and continued building their skills against strong competition.
Men’s Golf
NCC set a new school record with a team score of 303 (+17) at the RedTail Fall Classic on October 2 at Irv Warren Golf Club in Waterloo, Iowa. The Thunder finished eighth among 12 teams, improving the previous school record by eight strokes.
Carson Arens led NCC with a 73 (+1), setting another individual school record and finishing ninth overall. Cody Snyders followed with a 74 (+2) to finish 15th. Karson Hoogendoorn shot 77, and Tavin Miller finished with 81.
With three players scoring in the 70s, the Thunder continued to see their hard work translate into improvement on the course.
Men’s and Women’s Soccer
Both Thunder teams faced Iowa Central Community College on October 3.
Men’s Soccer: Iowa Central 6, NCC 1
The Thunder competed throughout the full 90 minutes against nationally ranked Iowa Central. NCC battled hard against a talented opponent, with Iowa Central ultimately earning the win.
Women’s Soccer: Iowa Central 8, NCC 0
NCC faced a highly ranked, well-coached Iowa Central squad. The Thunder showed determination and continued to compete throughout the match against a strong opponent.
Volleyball
October 1: Southwestern Community College 3, NCC 0
October 3: Riverland Community College 3, NCC 0
The Thunder battled through a demanding week, creating opportunities and continuing to improve their serve receive and hitting efficiency.
Kylie Boyle, Eva Stammer and Rain Nibbelink led NCC’s attack as the team continued to build consistency.
Sports Shooting
NCC competed in sporting clays at South Dakota State University on October 3. Windy conditions challenged shooters as the Thunder faced teams from both two-year and four-year colleges.

- Kaiden Johnson: 78/100
- Madelyn Kelley: 51/100
- Cal Lessman: 48/100
The top shooter from SDSU finished with a score of 93/100.
