Fremont, Nebraska — Kolby Newborg won the individual title and helped lead Northwestern to the team championship at the Midland Men’s Golf Invite held this afternoon at the Fremont Golf Club.
Newborg claimed medalist honors for the second time in his Raider career, winning today’s championship after a birdie on the second playoff hole against Preston Carbaugh (Midland). Both golfers finished the initial 18 holes with a one-under 70, two strokes better than the third place golfer.
Northwestern shot a 297, winning the team championship by one stroke over the host Warriors. Southeast Community College was third (304), followed by Northeast Community College (324) and Midland’s B (325).
Four Raiders placed in the top 10 and all six Northwestern golfers finished among the top 25. Jake Olsen tied for sixth with a 75, turning his first top 10 finish of the season. Brock Murphy and Alex Snyder both shot 76 and tied for ninth in the 52-player field. Nick Bomgaars added a 77 (T12th) and Trenton De Haan shot an 83 and tied for 25th.
