Nighthawks Roll to District Football Win Over Sheldon

Sheldon Iowa — 7th ranked Boyden Hull Rock Valley forced a pair of turnovers into an early 14-0 lead as they went on to down # 6 Sheldon 62-14 at Orab Field in Sheldon Friday night.

An interception by Cade Willemssen at the 50 yard line set up an 11 yard touchdown pass from J.T. Van’t Hul to Elliot Van Kekerix. Logan Block added the extra point and it was 7-0 with 9:15 to go in the first quarter.

The second touchdown was the result of a fumble recovery at the 50 yard line and was cashed in when Van’t Hul found Van Kekerix again this time for a 20 yard score to make it 14-0.

Sheldon answered with a 74 yard drive capped by a Brady Prescott 2 yard run. Brian Bernal  added the extra point and Sheldon was within 14-7 with 4:27 left in the first quarter.

The Nighthawks answered that with an Elliott Van Kekerix 1 yard run. The extra point was blocked and the lead was 20-7 late in the first quarter.

The Nighthawks added to the lead with a 47 yard strike from Van’t Hul to Cade Moser. The extra point made  it 27-7 with :47 seconds left in the quarter.

In the second quarter Austin Rozeboom had a 47 yard pick six and he found the end zone for a defensive score. A deflection in the end zone on the 2-point attempt landed in the hands of Elliott Van Kekerix and the score was up to 35-7.

Sheldon would answer that score with a 75 yard drive finished when wide receiver Tyler Merley found Tyler Lode for a 25 yard score. The kick was good and the Nighthawk lead was trimmed to 35-14.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley answered that score with Van’t Hul’s fourth touchdown pass of the game this time to Jaden Den Boer for 26 yards. The kick was good and the lead was up to 42-14.

The Nighthawks found the end zone again as Billy Rankin scored on a 6 yard run. The extra point made it 49-14 late in the first half. The first half scoring came to an end on a Van’t Hul 7 yard run following a fumble recovery at the Sheldon 31 yard line. The extra point put the score at 56-14 with :17 seconds left in the first half.

The games final score came with 8:00 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Keyton Moser hit Blake Parks on a 6 yard pass. The kick was no good and the final score would be 62-14 in favor of Boyden Hull Rock Valley.

With the win the Nighthawks are 3-1 for the year and 2-0 in the district. The Orabs suffer their first loss of the year against the defending 2A State Champs and are also at 3-1 for the year. They are 1-1 in the district.

Next Friday Sheldon will be go against Central Lyon George Little Rock in Rock Rapids. Boyden Hull Rock Valley will host Pocahontas Area at Hesla Field in Hull.
