Boyden, Iowa — The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks would play small ball in the first inning for a quick score, and never looked back while CJ Van Der Zwaag shut out the Warriors of Sergeant Bluff-Luton 6-0 at Centennial Park Friday night.
Cassie Van Beek started the bottom of the first inning with a lead off bunt. Van Beek would steal 2nd, advance to 3rd on Kaitlyn Kerr’s sacrifice bunt, and ultimately come into score on the Courtney Schafer sacrifice bunt. In the 2nd inning Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would add 4 more runs. Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag would double down the 3rd base line, Taylor Richter would bunt, reach first base after a Warrior error, while aggressive running by pinch-runner Emily De Ruyter came in to score from 2nd. Four batters later with 2 runners on, Cassie Van Beek would lift one deep to left for the 3-run homer making it 5-0 after 2. The Nighthawks would add one more run in the 5th inning and go on to win 6-0 over Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Terri Deitloff would take the loss in 6 innings of work, giving up 8 hits, walking 2, with 2 strikeouts and earning 3 runs.
Nighthawk pitcher CJ Van Der Zwaag would get the win with the complete game shut-out, giving up just 3 hits in the contest.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 30-3 on the season and will play Spirit Lake Monday night in the Region Final in Sheldon. Spirit Lake advanced with a 6-2 win over Cherokee in the upper bracket semi final.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton ends the season at 22-15.
