Nighthawks Tame Tigers

Rock Valley, Iowa — #3 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley had another complete game in all three phases to get the 62-6 win over Carroll to open district play Friday night at Nick Hulst Field in Rock Valley.

BHRV struck first late in the first quarter when Tanner Te Slaa found Caleb Kats with the 54 yard touchdown reception, making it 7-0 with 2:46 left in the first quarter. The Nighthawks scored again early in the second quarter when Lane Schmidt found a seem and ran 40 yards to paydirt to give Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley at 14-0 lead. On their next offensive possession, BHRV would turn the ball over and 2 plays later Carroll would put points on the board with a 49 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Lengeling to Zach Dirkx to make it 14-6 with 8:58 left in the first half.

That’s when the onslaught by the Nighthawks began.

On the ensuing kick off, Landyn Van Kekerix ran it all the way back for the 72 yard score to make it 20-7. After a 3-and-out by Carroll, Sam Remmerde would block the punt, and Caleb Kats would capitalize on the short field with a 5 yard score. Carroll’s next possession turned into more Nighthawk points when Cade Fisher took the errant pass by Lengeling 6 yards for the pick-six. On the next Carroll possession, BHRV’s Casey Pick would force the Lengeling fumble, and the Nighthawks would again use the short field to their advantage with a Bryson Van Grootheest 22 yard touchdown reception. Heading into half it was 41-6 Nighthawks.

To open the second half, Van Kekerix was on the receiving end of a 66 yard touchdown catch and run. Following another Carroll turnover, Zach Strubbe found the endzone on the 4 yard keeper, and Emiliano would finish out the scoring late in the game with a 15 yard scamper to the endzone. The Nighthawks came away with the 62-6 win.

The BHRV defense held Carroll to under 100 yards of total offense, put up 28 points off turnovers,  and for the second game in a row returned a kickoff for a score.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in district play. The Nighthawks will visit Sioux Center next week. Carrol falls to 3-2 on the year and 0-1 in the district. They will host Heelan next week.
