Rock Valley, Iowa — The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks topped the Sioux Center Warriors 25-14 in Rock Valley on Friday night.
The Nighthawks started things quick when Shane Solberg returned the opening kick off 75 yards to the house for a quick 6-0 score. Sioux Center got on the board late in the 1st when Tyus Ahrends found Marcus Winterfeld deep down field for the 53 yard touchdown pass. After the extra point it was 7-6 in favor of Sioux Center.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would answer 17 seconds later with a Myles Van Maanen 50 yard touchdown run, making it 12-7 after the missed extra point late in the first. Early in 2nd quarter, the Nighthawks would block a punt deep in Sioux Center territory and 2 plays later, Kyle Van Ginkel would punch in the 1 yard touchdown to make it 18-7 in favor of the Nighthawks, and that would be the score going into halftime.
After a defensive stand-off through out the 3rd, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would get on the board again in the 4th after Van Maanen turned on the afterburners and took it 72 yards to push the score up to 25-7 after the extra point. Sioux Center would add another touchdown late in the 4th quarter and the Nighthawks came away with the victory 25-14.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 2-0 on the season and heads to Spencer next week to start district play.
Sioux Center falls to 1-1 and hosts Cherokee to open their district schedule.
