Northwestern, Dordt Meet In Volleyball Action Wednesday Night

Sioux Center, Iowa — Ranked teams pair up when #2 Northwestern travels to Sioux Center to play #19 Dordt on Wednesday night, Sept. 11. First serve at the DeWitt Gym is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Northwestern is unbeaten, owning a 1-0 league record, 12-0 overall, while the Defenders are 0-1 in the GPAC, 8-4 overall.

Northwestern holds a slim 44-42 lead in the all-time series (dating back to 1989). Dordt had had the upper hand of late, winning four of the last five matches, including all three last season.

The Defenders went 2-1 last weekend at a tournament hosted by top-ranked Park University, defeating both Benedictine and Huston-Tillotson and falling to the #1 Pirates in four sets. Dordt is 8-4 overall, 0-1 in the GPAC, losing to Jamestown 3-1 in their lone conference match on Sept. 3. The Defenders are 3-4 against ranked teams.

Dordt has a 14.04 kills per set average with a .242 kill efficiency. Dordt is averaging 2.29 points per set on blocks and has a 66-49 service ace advantage. Dordt gets to 15.17 digs per outing and limit opponents to 10.76 kills per set and a .155 kill efficiency.

The Defenders are led at the net by Corrina Timmermans with a 2.65 kills per set average and she has a .248 kill efficiency. Ally Krommendyk is at 2.39 kills with a .362 kill efficiency and Jessi De Jager is at 2.43 with a .370 efficiency. Karsyn Winterfeld and Jori Bronner are at 2.43 and 2.11 kills per set and Winterfeld also gets to 2.50 digs and she has a team high 18 service aces. Hannah Connelly gets 4.48 digs per outing and Bousema 2.70. Megan Raszler and Emily Feilmeier average 6.65 and 5.2 assists per outing respectively.

The Red Raiders went 4-0 at the Viterbo Holiday Inn Express Classic last weekend, defeating William Woods, Waldorf, Taylor and #5 Viterbo, going 12-2 in sets played. They improved to 12-0 on the year, 3-0 against ranked teams and 1-0 in the conference.

Anna Wedel leads the team with a 3.79 kill per set average and a .293 kill efficiency. Makenzie Fink is putting down 2.93 kills per set with a .309 kill efficiency and AJ Kacmarynski adds 2.65 kills and Bekah Horstman is at 2.19. Lacey Wacker is averaging 11.77 assists per set and Emily Strasser leads the team with 4.19 digs per set and she tops the team with 22 ace serves.

Northwestern is averaging 14 kills per set with a .300 kill efficiency. Teams get 9.67 kills against the Red Raiders and Northwestern also has an 89-40 ace serves advantage. Kyle Van Den Bosch’s team generates 2.09 points per set on blocks.

Northwestern will play Mount Marty at home on September 14 in its next home match and will travel to Briar Cliff for a midweek match on September 18.

Dordt is at home on Saturday, September 14 against Briar Cliff with a 3:30 JV start and a 5:00 varsity first serve. The Defenders will then be off a full week before traveling to Mount Marty on September 21.
